The “curated ear” is the latest sought after jewellery trend that we here at Last Night I Dreamt can not get enough of. This trend consists of multiple piercings and cuffs all over the ears to create your own unique look whether this is delicate and pretty, or bold and statement. These earrings usually are completely mismatched with your left ear different to your right ear, perfect so you can pile all your favourite earrings in at once. It is said this is like the new low effort and reversible version of getting a tattoo?!
With the successful launch of Astrid & Miyu at our boutique late last year, ear stacking has become affordable without compromising on quality, and you lot seem to love it! We’ve noticed that the Jewelled Barbell and the Mystic Jewelled Huggies seem to be your favourite pieces to start off your own curated ear look (ours too!). You also love the Rainbow Spiked Huggies for an easy way to add a pop of colour to your look.

Not only is the curated trend seen all over celebrities and on Instagram, but it was also spotted in the Spring/Summer 2020 shows. Constellation inspired piercings have been found to be popular where you wear lots of tiny earrings, usually sparkly, scattered all over your ears. We would recommend the Astrid & Miyu Gem Huggies for this, or why not up your ear game further with the Rachel Jackson Diamond Studs. You could even add some pearls into the mix like the Claudia Bradby Micro Pearl Studs. These are an example of a classic jewellery look like the pearl stud become more contemporary, yet still timeless, when worn in the second hole or further up the ear. Claudia Bradby even does a Single Pearl Stud so you can easily mix and match.

British model Chloe Lloyd has added the Astrid & Miyu Pearl Hoops combining the 2020 trends of oversized hoops, and pearls, to make her curated ear more of a statement.
The use of single, mismatched earrings on the catwalks also took over this Spring/Summer, seen on runways such as Oscar De La Renta and Marc Jacobs. Rachel Jackson have released single earrings, like these Protective Heart Huggie Earrings, so you can try the look out for yourself. We will also be launching the Astrid & Miyu Charm Collection where you can pick a hoop and pick a charm, then build a completely wonderful mismatched ear look. So keep your eyes peeled for that! V by Laura Vann have released a similar collection, theirs with a bit more of a vintage heirloom inspired feel, where you can remove the charms and mix things up to your heart's content. If having lots of piercings isn't your thing, you can still join in on the trend by adding an ear cuff. These also look great with heavily pierced ears to add a little something different to your look. Ear cuffs don’t require a piercing, you just slip it onto your ear and you’re away. We also love the look of stacking a couple on to one ear. Astley Clarke have a perfect Floris Ear Cuff for an elegant every day look, or why not a sparkly one like the Astrid & Miyu Rainbow Ear Cuff for the addition of some colour. My most worn is the Astrid & Miyu Boyfriend cuff, this has enough drama for the evening and looks amazing in the day!

For the girl who has all the ear jewels and is looking for something different, why not add a chain to your ear look. The Kim Minchin Chain Earrings can be looped up and attached to other piercings, or worn long making them totally versatile. Why not just wear one to get that mismatched look!
What is the future for the curated ear we hear you ask, we know you’ll want to stay on top of this trend like us. It can get quite addictive! Maria Tash for Glamour Magazine says we will continue to see asymmetry in the earrings and number of earrings we wear, maybe with more clusters of stones and shapes in unusual combinations. A top piercer from sacred gold has said she feels the dainty look is still going strong and agrees mini clusters and textured shapes are what to look out for.
If you are looking for a new piercing the top piercing salons are definitely Sacred Gold, Astrid and Miyu or if you are Nottinghamshire based, Blue Banana.
With love, Libby x
