Good Fortune

A few years ago I bought a bamboo ring from a vintage fair in Moseley, Birmingham. It has sat on my dressing table ever since and was the seed of inspiration for this collection.

When delving into the history of bamboo I became fascinated by its different meanings. The words ‘Good Fortune’ came up and I began to imagine fortune tellers, mystics and gypsies. This brought the collection and its aesthetic alive. The bamboo plant is also said to bring harmony and balance to one’s life and symbolises integrity. I wanted to combine it with a classic jewellery symbol - the horseshoe - which has an ancient connection to good luck. Your everyday ‘Good Fortune’ piece, a talisman for Luck & Integrity.

SIZE

Charm: Width 2.3cm Height 2.7cm (including horseshoe loop)

Belcher chain length: 48cm (19 inch)

MATERIALS

Silver: Solid sterling silver.

Gold: Solid sterling silver - plated in responsibly sourced and ethical 24ct Gold.

My gold pieces are classed as Vermeil, this means that the base metal is Sterling Silver and there has been 2.5 microns of 24ct gold deposited on its surface. I plate my rings to 5 microns as they see more wear and tear.

Vermeil gold is the hardest wearing gold plate as it has such a high minimum deposit required. However it will still naturally fade over time, especially in high pressure areas such as where the jump ring sits on the chain.
